Connie (star temp) is leaving tomorrow. I think I'm in complete denial over the situation.

I'm really scared - not sure I'm going to be able to cope.

I'll be left with one who has been there 4 weeks, one 2 weeks, and one starting on Monday.

I've always had a safety net in Connie, as she was really good and had been there for six months and pretty much knew how to do everything.

I fear for my sanity! Trying to teach someone completely new AND still minding the other two is going to be hard.

Plus, I've started my secondment now, so I'm officially only supposed to be half-time.

Thanks to the lovely [ profile] olithered who was willing to sign a photograph to tell the government I actually am who I say I am, and have been for two years, I now have a UK provisional license. This means I can get my butt in gear about taking the theory and the practical exams before I'm supposed to stop driving on my US license (June).

Oh, that said, I quit taking my manual driving lessons on the grounds that it was stressing me out too bad. I'm just going to sit the practical and then get an automatic only license.

That's kind of too bad, as I was getting the hang of the manual car. I'm thinking I'll go back and get the full license once I have the ability to drive over here. I just think it's too much for me to realistically have the time to get test-ready in a manual by June, and I absolutely don't want to lose the ability to drive.

Anyway, many thanks to [ profile] olithered!

Last night I:

1) bought two pairs of shoes

2) ate waaaay too much delicious food with a friend

3) watched the second episode of Torchwood (not as good as the first, but probably that was because of a lack of Spike and Hot Men Kissing and then Beating the Crap Out Of Each Other. Very decent effort though.)

Jumping on the bandwagon...

You Know You Want To )
I'm going to be in Cambridge this weekend with Tristan.

If anyone would like to meet up for a late lunch/early dinner on Saturday or any time on Sunday, comment here or e-mail me!

Sorry for the late notice!

Today, after climbing up two escalators at Waterloo (one of which is Very Incredibly Long) and jogging to my train gate, I got stuck on the wrong side of one of those little motorized carts that have like 4 trailers and (I think) haul garbage around.

I sprinted around it, got to the train door just as it was closing.

The guard closed the door in my face and shook her head "no" at me, after watching me struggle with the trash van thing!

How nice of her.

Admittedly, there are 4 trains an hour that go where I want to go, but for all she knew, I wanted the tail end of that train, which is only every half hour.

Well, it appears I have stopped sleeping.

I'm still sick and doing nothing but coughing. So I can't fall asleep and my throat is killing me.

We are back in England.

Not without (terrible) incident.

Nobody panic, we're both OK.

Very, very tired - have not slept properly in 3 days.

Will update re: incident later.

Also sorting wedding pictures to post!

Just to let everyone know, Tristan and I have our interview at the British Consulate in Chicago tomorrow. Then we stay in Chicago for a night and then we're...

...heading to Orlando, Florida for a very fishy honeymoon. :-p

We're going here, here, and probably here!

I'm very excited to swim with the fishes!

So far married life is good. Though we've both hit each other in the face so far... Whoops?

Real Wedding update later, I promise!

Oh god, there is an end in sight to my upholstry nightmare!

All of the chair bottoms are covered and finished off.

All of the tops are at least in progress - the covers are made, but 5 of them aren't finished off on the bottom.

None of them are put back together. I'm having problems getting the backs back onto the frame. The bottoms are going on quite easily.

Mom bought a highly impressive power drill, so I will prevail over the backs.

The cake production is going well.... The white cakes are done. 1/2 of the sugar free whites are done. (Only half because we thought we were out of unsalted butter, but we found more. We'll probably finish them after the chocolates).

The german chocolates are under way. I really think this might actually only take as long as we thought it would. That would make this a first for the wedding.

We had a moment of panic yesterday as the pans we had (that plastic silicone stuff, not flexible, just weird) were warping, even though they're supposed to withstand much higher heat. We also decided we didn't have enough of them, as we could only make 8 little pieces (4 cakes) at a time.

So, I went wildly running around and bought some corningware 7oz ramekins, which are working brilliantly. Plus, we can make 17 pieces at a time, which is also stellar.

I'm pleased something is going well...

Today is one week until the wedding.

I'm starting to feel stressed. I'm snapping about stupid things.

Still feels like there's so much to do.

My mother just found my passport... in /her/ room.

We have no idea how it got in there, but it was in a plastic bag with some UK money and my UK debit card.

I'm /so/ relieved.

From Best Week Ever:

Lindsay Lohan topped Maxim Magazine’s list of the 100 Hottest Women In the World. Not who I would have gone with, but I suppose if you read Maxim, drug-addled club-hopping divasluts are pretty attractive.
